Today we:
  • turned in guns, germs, and steel assignment
  • read the culturegrams packet about a specific country in Latin America (if you were absent, you can access Culturegrams using pioneer.uen.org...the username is pioneer and the password is search)
  • Answered the culturegram questions about a specific country
  • transfered the information we learned about the specific country onto a map in front of the classroom
  • Summarized what we learned

Don't forget that your theme and current event assignment is coming up...and due next Monday!

Today we defined colonization and imperialism and discussed the two terms in relation to Latin America. Then we watched Episode 2 of Guns, Germs, and Steel and took notes on that.

Today we discussed things that make up a culture and we practiced analyzing and learning about cultures. In class, we:
  • went over expectations for the theme and current event (due on March 7th)
  • completed a class cultural survey
  • read about the "Nacirema"
  • Answered questions about the Nacirema (and turned this in)
  • Lectured about Latin American culture basics
Homework:
Use colored pencils to color in and map (on your map of Latin America) any cultural characteristic of Latin America. For example, color in all of the language regions within Latin America and make a corresponding key.

Today was TEST DAY! We turned in our study guides and any late work from Unit 1 (get EVERYTHING to me by Tuesday of next week if you want any credit for it).

After the test, you got the Latin America map and began working on identifying the places in Latin America. Finish this for homework.

Also, you received the explanation of you THEME and CURRENT EVENT, as well as your culture project.

Happy belated Valentine's Day! Today we reviewed for the test in our World Cup Competition! It was an intense battle...special congratulations to Greece in 1st period, Spain in 3rd period, and New Zealand in 7th period!

We turned in our World Cup Packets (bring these Thursday if you did not already complete them!)

The Study Guide is due on Thursday before the test.

Come retake the states and capitals test Wednesday during lunch or Thursday during intervention.

Remember, the last day to turn in late work from Unit 1 is on Thursday!

Today we had an early-out today, so we went right to work!
We started with a pop quiz on climate, then had a discussion about government. We read pages 101-102 on the textbook and filled out the worksheet about the different types of government. Be sure you can describe the following:

Today we finished learning about the 5 themes of geography (location, place, movement, human-environmental interaction, and movement). We learned about how humans adapt, modify, and depend on the environment, then about how goods, people, and ideas all move.

Today we took our States and Capitals test! If you scored below an 80 or simply want to retake it, come to intervention on Thursday!

After the states and capitals test, we took time in class to finish and fix the World Cup Packet parts 1-3. Be sure you are not just listing words, but you are describing the concepts you write about.

1st and 3rd period: work on your Maps, Charts, and Graphs from the first unit. This is due on Thursday.
