HAPPY HOLIDAYS! I hope you have a wonderful break! If you missed class today, you need to watch the film "Inside North Korea" by National Geographic. It's on netflix and can be found on youtube. Go to the "Asia" tab to find the accompanying worksheet.

January 4th/5th: Human Trafficking in Southeast Asia

January 6th/9th: Finish trafficking; religions in Asia

January 10th/11th: Turn in:

  • o Religions worksheet
  • o Theme paper

ALL LATE WORK DUE AND Asia theme projects due (you will receive a paper to help you with this); Study and prepare for final exam! The final is cumulative, with an emphasis on Asia.

Journal: Write down everything that comes to mind when you think of Asia (for last man standing)
Objective: Describe basic cultural characteristics of East, South, and Southeast Asia; explain the caste system in India
Classwork: First, we graded our tests from last time, then took notes from the powerpoint about the regions in Asia, then created the caste system in class, then watched clips from Outsourced

Homework: none! yay!

Journal: Create 3 mnemonic devices to help you remember the map of the Middle East.
Objective: Describe conflicts and timelines of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Classwork: Finish reviewing the wars, watch a video about Afghanistan, review the map of the Middle East, share themes, and hear from our Navy guest, Eric Geib.

Homework: Complete the Study Guide and prepare for the test next time!

Notebook check for next time will include:

2. 2 Paragraphs
3. Iraq vs Afghanistan

Objective: Differentiate between wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and create possible resolutions to conflict in Israel.
Classwork: First, we shared our current events. If you did not have your current event in class, make sure you still find one and answer the Who? What? When? Where? Why? How? and Summary questions on your own paper and get that in (or print it off the blog).
Next, we had a mini peace conference and created potential solutions to the problem in Israel. Lastly, we discussed the conflicts in the Middle East and took notes.

Journal: Explain to a friend what the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is and how religion is involved.
Objective: Describe the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in more detail and describe how the separation barrier has changed Palestinian youth.
Classwork: Powerpoint review, running timeline (8th period is in the lead!), then the TIMES magazine article reading entitled, "Palestinians, Contained" (which you can read here:http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,2036142,00.html). *If you were absent, you need to read this article and write down the ten things you learn about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as you read.

Homework: Find a current event article about a topic in the Middle East and fill out your Who, What, When, Where, and Why worksheet about the article.

Journal: Write down everything you know or think you know about Islam and Muslims, then next to each fact write how sure you are about the information.
Objective: Understand Islam and the basics behind the Israeli-Palestinian conflict
Classwork: Running timeline, notes on Islam, videos on the conflict

Homework: Write two paragraphs, one from the Israeli perspective, and one from the Palestinian perspective about why you are deserving of the land.

Day 4 December 12th/13th

1. Finish comparing recent conflicts in the Middle East
